Dr Horst Friedrich of GEPVOLT SE explains why grid connections, regulation and operating models determine the success of battery storage.
According to the company, GEPVOLT is in the transition from project developer to infrastructure operator. With projects in Schneeberg and Spremberg, as well as its first ventures with ATU, important milestones have been reached. The transformation will only be complete once the systems are commissioned and generating ongoing revenue.
On the subject of project risks, GEPVOLT emphasises its deliberate communication strategy: projects are only presented publicly once the site, building permit and, above all, the grid connection have been secured.
Regarding its Made in Germany approach, the company argues that customers are investing in critical energy infrastructure with a service life of 15 to 20 years. German development and production enable faster technology integration and flexible regulatory implementation.
Without a grid connection, neither capital nor a suitable site is of any use. Whoever secures a connection early holds a considerable structural competitive advantage.

On the market situation, GEPVOLT notes that demand for storage capacity is growing continuously, among industrial companies, grid operators and plant operators. The limited availability of grid connections prevents an unlimited number of projects at the same locations.
